Mediated Brief

Intervention is a process where a third party gets involved to assist a person in need of assistance. Intervention is a very positive aspect in a patient’s life. One positive effect that comes from intervention is that the person is allowed to get the help that they strongly need. A second positive effect of intervention is that it heals old wounds that the family may have experienced, and a third positive effect is that it lightens financial burdens that the family or patient has to face. After evaluating the opinions of the negative side, it has been agreed upon that the intervention process has both positive and negative effects, but the good outweighs the bad.

Reason 1: In intervention allows the patient to seek the help that is greatly needed and also improve their lives. With the help of intervention the victim could gradually escape the many problems that they once faced. The patient can continue on to a life of prosperity and happiness.

Reason 2: Interventions can either bring up hidden emotions or heal old wounds but it depends on the party involved in the situation at hand. For some people an intervention could bring up family secrets that were supposed to be revealed. For others the addiction has created a pot hole in their family environment and the emotions and thoughts revealed in the intervention may be the glue that puts their family back together.

Reason 3: Although the idea of paying for the intervention process is better than the idea of supporting the addict’s habit; interventions could also cause a financial burden to most families. Not all families that participate in interventions have the money to pay for a state- of the- art treatment facility. I am sure that the family of the patient would like the patient to have the best treatment that money could buy, but this is a dream to some of the families that participate in the intervention process. Money can be a huge deal when it comes to a successful intervention.

Define patient or use a different word. Your argument begins fine. Everything is spelled out for your argument, but like I commented on Kierra's brief, what is the positive effect, what sort of help does teh person need. You need to more thoroughly explain the situation you are mediating. What are other options to intervention (or are there) and why are they not as effective?

Reason 3 is better explained and seeks to refute another option for a "person in need of assistance."

Make sure you have the evidence to support your reasons. This comment was one that I made in class to everyone. I still need to know how and why your reasons are proven, rather than opinion. You have good start, but your thesis needs to be defined a bit more and your reasons need to have solid support. Let me know if you all have any questions.
